Day 1: ROME – NAPLES – POMPEII– SORRENTO (Lunch & Dinner included) One of our private transfer vehicles or mini bus will pick you up at your Rome Hotel for the trip south along the Autostrada del Sole (Highway of the Sun) to Naples. Upon your arrival at the Naples you will have a panoramic city tour which will include Margellina, Castel dell’ Ovo, and the Royal Palace. Drive by the seaport which was once the departure point for many Italians bound for the “New World”.
You continue on for a short ride to Pompeii, beneath the awesome and mysterious shadows of Mount Vesuvius. This ominous volcano, in 70 AD, destroyed most of the surrounding area and created an entirely new coastline with its cataclysmic eruption. During your visit of Pompeii, which lay 2000 years under the ashes and lava of Vesuvio, you can marvel at the advanced culture of the Pompeian citizens. The baths, the homes, the market place, and the gardens have all been remarkably preserved under the lava for two centuries. Lunch in a typical local restaurant.
Leaving Pompeii we will make a short visit to a Cameo Factory, an art practiced in this region for centuries. You will then continue on to SORRENTO, the jewel of the Sorrentine Peninsula, famous for the cultivation of oranges, lemons and olive trees. Its streets lined with boutiques famous lemon, handcrafted leather, ceramics and in-laid wood products. YES IT’S TRUE!!! Lemons on the Sorrentine Peninsula grow as large as grapefruits. And you haven’t lived until you’ve tried the Limoncello, lemon liquor so typical of the Region. As you walk up and down the alleyways of the old town you can stop into shop after shop for a taste of Limoncello and lemon candies of all sorts, even lemon chocolates! Hotel Vesuvio or similar. Day 2: SORRENTO – CAPRI (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included) A full day excursion by ferry to Capri, to discover the natural and man made beauty of this paradise island of the Mediterranean. The Isle of Lovers. Those of you who have never been there will soon realize why it is so called! One of the most Romantic places in the world. You begin your tour with Capri — it’s streets lined with boutiques famous for perfume making and lemon products of every sort imaginable. Lunch will be in a typical local restaurant. Later you will continue to the summit of the rock — Anacapri. Here in Anacapri you will have some free time, where the streets are lined with shopping amidst Roman Villas and beautiful garden paradises. Weather and tides permitting, visit the Blue Grotto. Day 3: SORRENTO – AMALFI (Breakfast & Dinner included) Transfer to Amalfi via the breathtaking Amalfi coast. Today after breakfast we will embark on one of the most memorable days of your trip, モLa Costiera Amalfitana, the Amalfi Coast Drive. Traveling south from the Bay of Sorrento along the Mediterranean, its time to experience the most spectacular and scenic coastal drives in all of Europe, if not the world! 100s of curves and turns, each one with a new and fantastic view of the mountains which seem to lean down to kiss the crystal clear turquoise sea below. The Amalfi Coast is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. En-route you will seePositano and other picturesque fishing villages. Grand Hotel Excelsior or similar. (Four Star Property)
Day 4: AMALFI (Breakfast & Dinner included) Day at leisure; discover the beauty of this wonderful coastal resort and to relax or plunge into the water of the Mediterranean Sea. Amalfi was once an ancient Empire seaport city, with its magnificent Arab/Norman Cathedral of Saint Andrew’s (9th - 12th Century). A great place for shopping, meandering the alleys or piazzas in this beautiful village. Local buses are available to Ravello and/or Positano. Grand Hotel Excelsior or similar. (Four Star Property)
Day 5: AMALFI – ROME (Breakfast included) Today after breakfast we, once again board our motor-coach. We bid farewell to this piece of paradise as we begin our journey back to Rome to your hotel. End of services.
